Hello, New Zealand. You stole my heart. Will you ever give it back? Do I really want you to give it back? I can talk about New Zealand all day and tell you stories about its beauty. Really, I could tell you all day.
Abel Tasman National Park is at the far north edge of the South Island. The park is known for its golden beaches and miles of breathtaking coastline. I could not get enough of this magical place. It’s a completely quiet place, isolated from the busyness of the world. It is the perfect place to escape for a quiet get away weekend.
Abel Tasman National Park was the first major stop on my bus trip around the south island. After a 15 mile hike, the park left me with blistered feet and sore legs. The views were well worth it.

The 15 mile hike was completely unexpected, but looking back my feet healed. It turned out to be one of my most favorite experiences in New Zealand. Sometimes, the best experiences come when you least expect them.
When you visit Abel Tasman, make sure these few things are on your ‘must do’ list. You will not be disappointed.
- Hike at least a little bit of the coast track
- Take a boat ride to the far end of the park
- Photography every magical waterfall
- Jump up and down a little bit on the swing bridges
- When you find the rope swing, take a minute to enjoy
