If Italy is called romantic; then, Venice is the capital of romance. Its silent canals and sleepy water alleyways will have you giving a happy sigh. Venice is beautiful, and it is truly a photographer’s dream.

Venice is located in the north, east region of Italy. It sits on the Adriatic Sea, and it has a long maritime history. It’s the perfect walking city, because the majority of the city is connected by water canals. That leaves you walking over curved bridges, along beautiful canals and through huge squares. Venice is the perfect city to become lost. Don’t be in a hurry, because when you step out of the tourist path you will find Venice’s true charm.

These beautiful pictures will have you dreaming of Venice.

Are you in love? I believe Venice is doable in a day trip. It’s a very busy city, so I enjoy staying in Verona or one of the other small towns in the area that are quickly accessible to Venice by train. The trains in Italy are very cheap and reasonable. It is quite possible to stay in Venice, but I have always preferred not to drag my luggage through the side channels. Remember, Venice has water taxis. They can get you close to your accommodation, but not always that close. I would avoid dragging your luggage long distances. To make your day in Venice memorable, make sure you visit these top places:

  • Take the water bus on the Grand Canal
  • Gondola boat ride
  • Piazza San Marco
  • The Bridge of Sighs
  • Doge’s Palace and Bridge
  • Every small side street and get lost
  • Ponte di Rialto
  • Basilica dei Frari
