I fell in love with Zürich. Nestled at the end of a gigantic lake, this Swiss city has plenty of charm to share. Zürich is a very accessible city from Germany and Austria. It also has a fairly large airport that I’ve heard is very accessible to fly into. Zürich might just be the perfect city to start your European tour.

Zürich is an extremely modern and robust city. Like any city in Switzerland, the city offers efficient public transportation, a clean atmosphere, friendly people and more. Can I move to Switzerland? Seriously, these local people seemed completely content with their lives. So brush up on your German and take a trip to Zürich to enjoy this spectacular city. 24 hours is all you need, but add a couple of days to the agenda to enjoy a few of the surrounding towns. They are exquisite.

1 // Walk the bank of ZürichSee

Walking the shoreline of this beautiful lake was relaxing. I enjoyed it very much, and I did it pretty much at least once or twice a day during my stay. My hostel was on the south side of city very close to the lake shore. It is a beautiful walk through Strandbad Mythenquai and the Aboreturm.

2 // Bahnhofstrasse

Yes, I would love that $3,000 CHF diamond necklace. This was the conversation with myself as I strolled down Bahnhofstrasse. This street is one of the most expensive shopping streets in the world. I didn’t dare go into a store, but instead I enjoyed window shopping. It was less risky. Your trip to Zürich must include this famous street.

4 // Grossmünster and St. Peter Church

These two beautiful churches offer a perfect picture backdrop. The stained glass in Grossmünster was magnificent, and it is a must see. It is also free entrance, which is a huge plus after traveling in Italy for a month.

5 // Münstergasse

Münstergasse is a beautiful, charming street to walk down in the afternoon. The street has fantastic cafes and bakeries. It is also charming to photograph and stroll.

6 // Hike the Uetliberg for a fantastic view

Take a short train from the central station and you will find yourself on top of beautiful Uetliberg. From the train stop, it is a short 20 minute walk to the top of the mountain. Just follow the crowd. This spot offers a fantastic view of the city below and the lake. On a clear day, you can even see the beautiful Alps in the distance.

7 // Ride a Boat on the Lake

This is way easy to do, and it was a fantastic 1 ½ hour trip. At Bürkliplatz, buy the $8 CHF short round trip ticket. You can also choose from a longer round trip ticket or middle round trip ticket for more money. These tickets will take you to various places around the lake, but I was completely content with the 1 ½ hour trip. From Bürkliplatz you will make several port calls. Don’t feel the need to jump off the boat. You won’t be the only one enjoying the view and ride.
