Switzerland. The country will encompass you in beautiful landscapes, tasty chocolate and charming people. The initial charm of the country will leave you wanting more. And like many people before you, you will dream of the day you move to Switzerland. This alone is why you should visit Lucerne Switzerland.
Lucerne is a beautiful city nestled amongst the foothills of the Alps. With its 14th-century city walls, covered bridges and buildings, this city breathes a fairytale story. Are you ready for one of those? In the distance, the towering Alps cast a beautiful view on to the lake. This makes the lake almost mysterious and no doubt gorgeous, ideal for the perfect Instagram shot. Lucerne is the perfect Swiss storytale.
Lucerne is about a one hour train ride from central Zurich. Because of this, the city is very accessible to travel to for the day. For $50 CHF (Swiss dollar), you can purchase a round trip train ticket from Zurich to Lucerne and back. Switzerland has an open rail system, leaving you to choose the time when you would like to ride the train the day of purchase. After one very smooth and efficient train ride, you will find yourself in Lucerne. Exit the train station and you will find yourself looking at the city center. As you stroll this medieval town, make sure to stop by these fantastic sights.
1 // Kapellbrücke
It is the most photographed bridge in Lucerne and for good reason. Take a walk across the bridge and you will quickly be transported back in time. The planted flowers were particularly beautiful and provided an outstanding backdrop for pictures.
2 // Museggmauer and the City Walls
It was a unique experience to view old city walls that were in fantastic shape. Time and weather seemed to have no effect on these beautiful structures. For free, you can climb a few stairs and find yourself walking along the city walls. Snap a few pictures of the view, because you will see the entire city and lake before you.
3 // Altstadt Lucerne
The altstadt is the old part of town. This is my favorite place to visit in any city or town, because yet again you are transported back in time. The buildings and churches were charming to walk around and photograph. Make sure St. Peters-Kapelle and Jesuitenkirche church is on your list.
4 // Walk Along the Reuss
The Reuss the the river that flows through the Altstadt from the lake. Along the river, you will find several restaurants, gelato shops and cafes to sit and enjoy the view.
5 // Sit next to the Lake and Ride a Boat
It was a perfect sunny day when I visited Lucerne. This perfect opportunity to sit next to the lake and sunbath. Along the lake, the city offers several places to sit and relax. Take advantage because the view is well worth it. If you feel bold, rent a paddleboat or speedboat on the lake. A view from the lake always offers a unique perspective.
I hope you are dreaming of Lucerne, because I am waiting for the day when I can visit it again. Maybe this time it can be early spring, then I can see the beautiful snow capped Alps towering majestically over the lake. That would be a fantastic sight. I hope these reasons convinced you why you should visit Lucerne Switzerland. Where is your next travel destination?
